This is the end...And yet, it's just the beginning!

 Blog Post #8

Hey y’all…here we are, at the end of our blogging journey. Perhaps it’s just the beginning for you!  I am not sure if I will continue, or make a new one.  Without the prompt right now, until I finish my degree, I don’t see myself continuing until I am done this summer!  I attempted one for my class of kindergarteners in Thailand way back in the day, and many parents of the kids were into it.  I’d have to see whether or not I could blog about my current students, but if I do continue a blog of some sort, I definitely want it known to my students and parents.  I think it could be a great way of establishing community relationships and partnerships.

Reviewing my own blogs I can definitely tell that I started to figure a few things out in terms of layout and add
ons. I think my best post for professionalism was
#3 - We are All Writers. Because I was linking to so many of the readings, I included hyperlinks that will take a reader to the Amazon pages you can buy it!  Real, professional blogs often include these links and it is a fun way to give credit and more information than any reference note at the bottom. If only we could use this in writing academic essays! The best post for multimodal design would have to be my last, #7 my PSA inspired by World Without Fish.  I not only gave the link, but I uploaded the video so there was seamless watching right in my blog. I prefer this, so I hope the viewers did too!  For most creative, blog post # 1 which included my literacy mashup.  I really enjoyed creating that visual and while there are some funnier ones on other posts, the time and energy I put into that mash up makes it the best! Finally, for best civic engagement, I have to pick my blog post #7 again.  I tried really hard to connect to the audience of our classmates and the city of Milwaukee.  I want people to think about how much and what kind of fish they are digging into.

Finally, in appreciation of all of my student-colleague bloggers, I nominate Aubrey Murtha’s blog!  From post #1, she was so polished and professional.  She had awesome layouts and played with the size of fonts, bringing attention to important quotes.  She always had links to other resources and places to find ideas that connected.  Her voice was strong, connecting to her past experiences and really being excited about how she could apply the readings to her future classes!

  1. Comment from Aubrey - Thanks so much, Becky. I loved reading your blog, too. It is helpful for me to reflect on the words of teachers with more experience than me, so even though I didn't always leave comments on your work, I read the majority of your posts. I think you bring a great sense of humor and a humble wisdom with you, and I was always engaged when you participated during class discussion. I think my classmates and I learned a lot from you this semester, and I am happy to have made this professional connection (now I have your contact info, so don't be surprised if I reach out to you for teaching inspiration one of these days).

  2. Hello Becky! Before taking this class, I never thought about making a blog for my students and their parents and other educators to learn more about my skills and teaching journey. This was actually my first time using outside reading sources to use in a blog and I like the website that I chose to work with (WordPress). I also enjoyed reflecting on my schooling history and the books that had an impact on my life. I am glad that we've got to share our masterpieces with our young writers as well.

  3. This being my last time to comment on your worthy blog. Thanks for the creative ideas, unique Becky angle of the thoughts. I appreciate your humor, your honesty and your patience with teaching me new technology. You are an outstanding teacher and I admire your attention to detail.

  4. Hey Becky. I'm on a similar page in that I will be taking a break from blogging, but plan on returning to it eventually. I like what I've set up with my blog so far, so I don't want it to go to waste. That being said, I plan on pivoting the focus and topics for future blog posts to cover a more board scope, including creative endeavors, personal journaling/writing, and maybe writing about other hobbies.

P.S. I wanted to use this comment as a chance of letting you know that I've appreciated you voicing your opinions in class and even playing devil's advocate. Technology is a wonderful thing, but sometimes it can be easy to get caught up in it and lose track of if/how it is serving us. Your questioning in class brings important insights and perspectives that I feel like isn't very common among many people nowadays. As a future educator, I can accept that technology is an inevitability in my field of work, but your opinions have validated my concerns in that it shouldn't always be the answer.

  5. Hey Becky!
It's never too late to appreciate a great writer! Every time I read your blog I could literally hear your voice in my head. You have that effect on your readers. Please keep writing. I will be checking in from time to time to see what you have here. Writing is a commitment but it's rewarding at the end of the day. Not that I am a consistent writer but, Hey Becky, JUST DO IT!
